February 24 – Today I announced that I will not seek reelection to the United States Congress. As one of my strongest supporters, and as a dear friend, I want to thank you for your help, trust, and friendship over the years. The people of Southeast Michigan have given me their votes to serve them in Washington for many years. This honor is one I have never taken lightly. There is no greater privilege than a life spent in service, and I have worked to do my best for the people who live here – you, my neighbors, friends, and members of my community. We’ve won more battles than we’ve lost, and we’ve taken our lumps, but we’ve emerged battered, bruised, but never defeated.
January 31 – Elected officials, Ann Arbor business owners, and staff members at Zingerman’s Deli met Thursday afternoon inside at the deli’s 422 Detroit Ave. location – for what was dubbed a #SandwichSummit – to discuss efforts to increase the state and federal minimum wage. U.S. Rep. John Dingell, D-Dearborn, State Rep. Adam Zemke, D-Ann Arbor, and State Rep. Jeff Irwin, D-Ann Arbor chose to meet at Zingerman’s following a recent trip by co-owner Paul Saginaw to Washington D.C., as he lobbied with business owners across the country for a $10.10 minimum wage.
The Michigan Democratic Congressional Delegation released the following letter urging former Rep. Mark Schauer to run for governor, and pledging to support his campaign:
As members of Michigan’s Democratic Congressional delegation, we’ve each had the opportunity to work closely with you in our service to our state and nation.
That’s why we support you and strongly encourage your candidacy for Governor of our state, and we write to let you know we will be proud to support you. You’ve always been guided by principle, and you’ve always been on the side of the people versus the powerful special interests.
We need a new direction in Lansing, and we know from your long record of public service that you will lead Michigan in a better direction that works for all people, creates good middle class jobs, and makes Michigan a global leader again.
We stand ready to fight along-side you to move Michigan forward.
Thank you for your leadership and we look forward to working with you.
