Dingell Delivers

October 18, 2010

Dear Friend,

Today, I was proud to announce a Department of Transportation grant of $13.9 million to rebuild important bridges along East Stadium Boulevard in Ann Arbor. This critical funding will allow the City of Ann Arbor to reconstruct a corridor that connects downtown to the University of Michigan and major freeways, that will help create jobs and help Washtenaw County small business owners.

For several years, I fought for this vital project to help our community. I repeatedly called and wrote Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood, and brought the Department of Transportation’s deputy secretary back to Ann Arbor so he could see for himself how important this project is. The project will enable the city to rebuild bridges in such poor condition that traffic is limited to just one lane in each direction, and now have a Federal Sufficiency Rating of 2 on a 100-point scale. The funding will save the citizens of Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County, and the State of Michigan over $33 million each year through reducing delay, vehicle operation, and crash costs.

Infrastructure projects like this one are critical to rebuilding our economy. Not only does it create American jobs in our community, but it invests in business development by making our communities safe and accessible to future employers, employees, and their families. As your Congressman, I will continue to fight for our share of infrastructure projects in Washington, to make sure taxpayer money is being wisely spent on projects like this that are sorely needed and will create jobs.

Read more about the project at AnnArbor.com, where my friend and Ann Arbor City Council Member Tony Derezinski said, “John Dingell was with us from the beginning on this and gave us some hints on how we could structure this project to be attractive. He brought high-ranking officials from the U.S. Department of Transportation to see the problem. Certainly the president saw it when he flew over for commencement. And we just have a lot to be thankful for – this is a substantial part of the money we need.”

With every good wish,

John Dingell

P.S. – Election Day is only 15 days away, and I need your support to continue to fight for important projects like this one in Congress. With every good wish,

John Dingell
