I am very pleased that the Senate overwhelmingly passed a food safety bill today by a vote of 73-25, following the House’s passage of a food safety bill in the summer of 2009.  The Senate bill, while not as good as the House bill that I authored, makes improvements to FDA’s existing authorities to ensure the safety of the American food supply just as the House bill does.  The Senate bill is a giant leap forward towards ensuring the safety of the American food supply and I will work diligently to get food safety legislation on President Obama’s desk for signature as soon as possible.
