Dingell Issues Statement on 2010 Census Implications
December 21, 2010
Today John D. Dingell issued the following statement on the 2010 Census figures and the pending redistricting process:
The 2010 Census figures show Michigan is the only state with a decline in population and Michigan will lose a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. I hope that as the maps are being redrawn by the state legislature, they are drawn in a way that best serves the interest of all the people of Michigan and not the interests of the political parties. I hope that Michigan’s state legislature and all those involved with redistricting rise above the partisan fray and put the people of Michigan first. This has not always happened in the past, but I am hopeful that 2011 will be different.
Michigan has made some progress on our economic recovery, and now more than ever we need to come together and work together to keep moving Michigan forward.
