Congressman Dingell had another eventful weekend around the district and we’d like to share with you some photos from a few of the events he attended:
Saturday morning began with Congressman Dingell “Cruisin’ Downriver” with Adam Zemke in Adam’s classic Ford Mustang Convertible. The 12th annual event drew big crowds throughout four Downriver communities as nearly 500,000 people came out to celebrate our regional heritage and admire beautiful automobiles.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Dingell stopped by the Dearborn C.A.R.E.S. Festival where volunteers were busy
with the pancake breakfast portion of the weekend-long green event held in Dearborn’s Crowley Park. She continued on to the ARC’s 60th Anniversary Legislative Breakfast in Detroit, and then the Washtenaw Community Action Team Town Hall Meeting to discuss the statewide initiative to repeal Public Act 4 – Emergency Financial Managers. The Dingells met up at the Wayne County Senior Picnic with Bob Ficano. The huge event filled Dearborn Heights’ Warrendale Picnic area with tents, food, music and fun. Dingell commended Wayne County Executive Bob Ficano for a great event that brought together so many community members.

ay afternoon Congressman Dingell spoke at the Freedom Salute for 25 soldiers from the Michigan Army National Guard 777 Military Police Detachment. The event commemorated the soldiers’ service in Operation Iraqi Freedom, and as a veteran himself, Dingell was pleased to be a part of it. Said Dingell, “Providing adequate care for Americans in uniform is a process that requires constant attention. As long as I’m in Congress I will fight to make sure we are taking care of you.”Later Dingell welcomed to Michigan U.S. Congresswoman Donna Edwards (MD-04), who came to town as the honorary guest speaker for the Washtenaw County Democratic Party’s annual dinner. But when Rep. Edwards arrived at the airport, Rep. Dingell had a surprise for her: a live musical welcome from Wyandotte’s Roosevelt High School Marching Band!

The Roosevelt H.S. Marching Band had a personal connection to Congresswoman Edwards because she helped them out of a jam in 2009. The band had been honored with the request to play in President Obama’s Inaugural Parade in Washington, D.C., but every hotel in the city was already booked for the historic event. The high school contacted Dingell for help, and in turn he reached out to Edwards whose district is nearby our nation’s capitol. The Congresswoman quickly made arrangements for the marching band to stay in a local high school gym, complete with access to showers, extra sleeping bags, ironing boards and even board games for entertainment. She stopped by the school to personally meet the band from Michigan and make sure they had everything they needed. The Roosevelt H.S. Marching Band was so grateful for Congresswoman Edwards’ hospitality that when Mr. Dingell asked them to welcome her at the airport on Saturday, they enthusiastically obliged. “Congresswoman Edwards was touched,” said Dingell. “It was a great event!”
Saturday evening the Dingells attended the Washtenaw County Democratic Party’s Annual Dinner. The event was a great success, with over 150 in attendance. Dingell spoke at the dinner and congratulated and thanked Washtenaw County Democrats for being a major Democratic stronghold in the region.
Sunday morning
Congressman and Debbie Dingell brought Congresswoman Edwards along to visit churches in Ypsilanti. Pictured to the left are the Dingells and Rep. Edwards with Pastor Hatter at the Special Anniversary Celebration for his 20 years of service at Brown Chapel A.M.E. They also visited a Bible study at St. John’s Church and met with Reverend Davis and Pastor Kersey at the Community Church of God.The Dingells rounded out the weekend with a stop by the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 2184 Annual Family Picnic. The weather couldn’t have been better for this annual event to raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

All in all it was a great weekend in the 15th!
